September 2022 meeting: Veteran religion journalist, author to speak


Veteran journalist Bob Smietana will discuss his new book and his career covering religion at AMP’s September meeting. Smietana is a national reporter for Religion News Service based near Chicago, covering evangelicals, weird religion and the changing religious landscape. He is the author of “Reorganized Religion: The Reshaping of the American Church and Why it Matters.” Previously, Smietana worked as a senior writer for Facts & Trends, senior editor of Christianity Today, religion writer at The Tennessean, correspondent for Religion News Service, and contributor to OnFaith, USA TODAY, and The Washington Post. Smietana’s talk will be part of the hybrid AMP meeting on Sept. 8 at noon in Room 101 of the Homewood Public Library. It is also available via Zoom. We have meetings on the second Thursday in January, February, May, June, July, August, September, and November. During these meetings, we hear from renowned industry experts who provide helpful information and skills training. Monthly meetings also provide networking opportunities and encouragement from others in the communications field.

 

​AMP Members can attend monthly meetings for free. Non-members can attend for a fee of $5. In April, we have our annual Communications Contest Awards Banquet where our communications contest winners are announced, our Communicator of Achievement is recognized and new officers are installed.

 

​In October and March, we hold intensive professional-development workshops. In December we host a holiday party.
