AMP Education Fund

The mission of the Alabama Media Professionals Education Fund, Inc. is to offer communications professionals continuing education in ethical, standards-based practices, to provide scholarships for aspiring communicators, and to help Alabamians of all ages improve their news-literacy skills so they can become more responsible consumers of news and communications products. These goals reflect the purposes of Alabama Media Professionals and the National Federation of Press Women.

The Education Fund was incorporated in 2022 as a 501(c)3 organization. Donations to the Fund are tax-deductible. AMP created the Education Fund, in part, as a way to provide tax deductions for donations to its educational initiatives. (While AMP itself is a nonprofit, it is not a 501(c)3, and donations to AMP are not tax deductible.

The Fund will grant at least one scholarship per year to a high-school senior aspiring to a communications career (see details below). The number and amount of scholarships will be determined by total donations to the Fund.

Funds for member education primarily will be used to compensate speakers at monthly meetings and two multi-speaker workshops each year. Future member benefits could include grants for special training and financial assistance for attending seminars and conferences.

The Fund's public education effort will work with K-12 schools, colleges, universities and community organizations to help Alabama’s residents learn how to separate fact from opinion in the largest and most complicated information landscape in human history.

Scholarship for graduating Alabama high school seniors

Alabama Media Professionals presents a scholarship annually. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating Alabama high-school senior whose entry in the AMP High School Communications Contest is judged to be the “best of the best.” In addition, the scholarship recipient must be accepted to a college or university and plan to major in a communications field.

AMP presents the scholarship at its annual Spring Awards Banquet.
