21 AMP members, 8 high schoolers recognized in NFPW Communication Contests



Twenty-one AMP members and eight Alabama high school students were recognized for their outstanding work in this year’s National Federation of Press Women Professional and High School Communication Contests.


Winners of the professional contest were announced June 25 during the NFPW conference in Fargo, N.D. AMP members received 29 awards, including nine first-place recognitions.


More than 2,000 entries were submitted in this year’s national contest. Winners in the contest first competed in contests within their state or in an at-large contest for states without contests. First-place winners in these contests advanced to the national contest. AMP members who placed are listed below. (To read the details of their awards, see the slideshow above.)

  • Second Place, Yearbook Layout: Jayanna Curry, Sparkman High

  • Honorable Mention, Best Newscast (Radio or Television): Tiger TV, Auburn High

  • Honorable Mention, Opinion: Harrison Hollingsworth, Sparkman High

  • Honorable Mention, News Story: Olivia Bodner, Sparkman High

We have meetings on the second Thursday in January, February, May, June, July, August, September, and November. During these meetings, we hear from renowned industry experts who provide helpful information and skills training. Monthly meetings also provide networking opportunities and encouragement from others in the communications field.

 

​AMP Members can attend monthly meetings for free. Non-members can attend for a fee of $5. In April, we have our annual Communications Contest Awards Banquet where our communications contest winners are announced, our Communicator of Achievement is recognized and new officers are installed.

 

​In October and March, we hold intensive professional-development workshops. In December we host a holiday party.
