Author and creative-writing professor to discuss using your life as material for telling stories

Kerry Madden-Lunsford grew up the daughter of a college football coach moving every few years, depending on the winning or losing season of the football team. As the oldest of four children, it was her responsibility to “get the job done” as the senior member of the team. When she wrote her novel, Offsides, memoir was only barely in fashion with Mary Karr’s The Liar’s Club, so Offsides is more autobiographical novel than memoir.

At AMP's Oct. 8 meeting, Madden-Lunsford will discuss using your life as material, digging deeper to find the story, and trusting yourself to tell the story. Kerry is the author eight books for children and adults. She is an associate professor of creative writing at UAB. Her newest picture book, Ernestine's Milky Way, was published by Random House. Offsides has been optioned again, and she and her sister, Keely Madden, are at work on a pilot script for a series. To RSVP to the meeting, click here. We will send information for joining the Zoom meeting in an email.
