Tips for Effectively Collaborating with other Freelancers

When the dean of UAB’s School of Public Health approached freelance writer Jennifer Walker-Journey about turn-keying the school’s twice-annual magazine, she didn’t want to do it. She didn’t think she could produce an entire magazine on her own. But the dean persisted.

So she called together two other freelancers – Jane Ehrhardt, a writer and designer, and Nancy Dorman-Hickson, another writer – and the three of them got to work turning the dean’s non-traditional, out-of-the-box ideas into a fabulously successful publication.

“It was so much fun,” Dorman-Hickson said during a presentation at Alabama Media Professionals’ Nov. 9 meeting. “We all felt so empowered by doing this together.”
